Federal appeal courts have found that unpaid interns are not protected against sexual harassment claims. The article “How Unpaid Interns Aren’t Protected Against Sexual Harassment” explains how the law protects the interns who work for nothing: it does not. Apparently because interns are not paid, they are not technically employees, so they do not get the same benefits that an actual employee would.
This kind of judgment just makes it acceptable for people to get harassed, but it is not acceptable. It seems that the world will just allow more and more people to get away with harassing the vulnerable. It also makes the victims more vulnerable because the harassers know there are no repercussions to their actions. It makes the world a sick place to live in.
